these are the tools you’ll need to begin your mushroom growing journey

None of these materials are fancy or expensive, so don’t worry!
  • Spray bottle w/ 70% Isopropyl Alcohol + Water Mixture

  • Mushroom Dry Spawn

  • Reusable or disposable gloves

  • Aluminum foil

  • Large Tweezers [I still had mine from a high school dissection kit from 18 years ago]

  • Micropore Tape for creating a seal while allowing for passive airflow

  • Your container of choice - in this case, I used a pint mason jar [first time experimenting so I started small]

  • Substrate, whether bulk, liquid, or grain. I went with an agricultural byproduct called coco-coir [brick and husk]

  • A pot large enough to pasteurize or sterilize the substrate

  • Muslin cloth or old tshirt to teabag your substrate while heating in pot

  • Coffee grounds for supplemental nutritional benefits for the mycelium

  • Distilled clean water

  • Water temperature monitor

  • Scissors and Scalpel

  • Small fruiting tent

  • Black spray paint or fabric paint

  • A dark corner, closet, or cabinet to store your container after inoculation

  • Small fan for air circulation/ clearing out excess CO2

  • Tiny space heater

  • Keychain thermostat

  • Black Spray Paint or Tape for creating an opaque environment for fruiting your mushrooms
